The Inevitable Happened
India V WI 5-match ODI series tied 1-1-1 after 3 ODIs.
India suffered a painful 43-run defeat despite Virat Kohli’s brilliant batting against the West Indies at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Chasing a stiff 284-run target, India’s top 4 in the batting order – for a change – could not deliver. Team India was eventually bundled out for 240 in less than 50 overs.
Kohli, the Run Machine
Kohli became the first Indian and 10th overall to score three successive hundreds in the One-Day format. His last 107-run knock came in a losing cause against the West Indies in the third ODI in Pune.
This was India’s first loss in 9 ODIs which also include 2 tied encounters.
Personally, it was a great day for Kohli. The day saw his third consecutive ton in this series and five 100s out of last 6 games at home. 38 ODI tons overall! But the 38th ODI hundred went in vain, a third instance of his ODI 100 in a losing run chase!
Thus, the tourists too had their share. Their coach Stuart Law had said earlier, “We forced India to bring Bhuvi and Bumrah.” (See: Law). While Bhuvi went for plenty, Bumrah prevented WI reach 300. The West Indies thus tasted their first win of the tour. The score line now reads 1 win, 1 loss and 1 tie for both the teams.
Happy Karva Chauth
The day happened to be the first Karva Chauth for Mr and Mrs Virat Kohli. The couple tweeted ‘Happy karva chauth to all’.
