UN team leaves for Al Hudaydah to monitor ceasefire: Reports

India News

Doha, Dec 23 (UNI) A UN team tasked with monitoring a ceasefire in Yemen has left for the port city of Al Hudaydah from the capital of Sanna, local media reported on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, a six-strong team of UN observers led by retired Dutch general Patrick Cammaert held talks in Sanaa with the Houthi movement, according to the Sky News Arabia broadcaster.

Prior to that, the UN team met with representatives of the Yemeni government in the southern Yemeni port city of Aden.

The events come after the UN Security Council adopted on Friday a resolution calling for the deployment of a UN team to Yemen for 30 days to help monitor the ceasefire in Al Hudaydah, which was agreed upon by the warring parties during the UN-led consultations in Sweden earlier in December.

In a process overseen by an UN-chaired committee, troops from both sides are supposed to withdraw from the entire area.
