Right-wing Hindu activist accused the police of trying to stop “genuine devotees” from entering the Sabarimala temple, saying the fight is ideological. On Saturday, Hindu Aikya Vedi state president P Sasikala was detained by the police at Marakootam. Sasikala, who was on a pilgrimage to the Lord Ayyappa temple, was taken into preventive custody at 2.30 am Saturday. (See : Sasikala)
Right-wing Hindu activists had earlier called a dawn-to-dusk hartal across Kerala to protest against the “preventive detention” of their leaders.
Following the arrest of Kerala BJP general secretary K Surendran, who was removed from Nilakkal on Saturday night, party workers blocked the highway at Thiruvalla in protest. Traffic was blocked at various places including in state capital, Kochi, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kasaragod, and in front of Kottarakara sub-jail, where Surendran has been lodged.(See: BJP Leaders)
State BJP president P S Sreedharan Pillai alleged that the BJP leaders, including him and K Surendran were being implicated by the CPI(M)-led state government in false cases. ‘This is an ideological fight,’ he said. BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai and party’s sole MLA O Rajagopal will also address dharna in Pathanamthitta town protesting against lack of proper arrangements for pilgrims at Sabarimala.
