In yet another attempt to form a united front against the ruling BJP government, Opposition parties are meeting today in the national capital to discuss an alliance to take on the saffron party in the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Telugu Desam Party chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is coordinating this key Opposition meet and has invited all non-BJP members to attend.
The meeting comes a day ahead of the poll results being announced in five states – Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Mizoram and Telangana and the start of the Winter session of Parliament. Apart from chief ministers of states where Opposition parties are in power, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi are likely to attend the meet. “I look forward to continuing our dialogue and to strengthening our alliance, that has stood the test of time,” the Congress president tweeted.
The meeting will commence at 3:30 pm in the Parliament House, followed by the NDA leaders’ meeting at 4:00 pm.
