Odisha govt hikes livelihood assistance for fishermen affected by mass nesting of Olive Ridleys
Bhubaneswar, Oct 30 (UNI) The Odisha government today proposed to enhance the livelihood assistance for the fishermen family affected due to ban on fishing on 20 km radius from the coast line during the mating season of the endangered Olive Ridley turtle.
A high power committee held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary A P Padhi today decided to enhance the livelihood assistance to the fishermen family from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,500.
The Committee also decided to cover more fishermen under the scheme during the current season.
A sea turtle research centre will be set up at Ghati Central Nursery in the Khalikore Forest range in Ganjam district.
Mr Padhi directed to plan the activities in the proposed research centre in a such a way that the research centre would remain vibrant throughout the year and serve as a real research centre on sea turtle.
