Cricket: Alkhobar beat Muscat to lift EY Mena Cup

MUSCAT: EY Alkhobar edged past Muscat to win the seventh edition of the EY Intercompany Mena Cup during the weekend.

Winning the toss and electing to bat Alkhobar posted a total of 163 runs in 16 overs.

Requiring to score 164 runs to win Muscat in reply fell short by 24 runs. Abdul Wahab from EY Alkhobar was declared the man of the match in the finals.

The tournament was a well contested one where eight teams fought it out for top honours. The companies from across the MENA region teams that took part in the tournament were Muscat, Doha, Kuwait, Manama, Dubai, Alkhobar, Riyadh and Jeddah. Every individual demonstrated the true spirit of sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

During the prize-giving ceremony EY Muscat thanked Oman Cricket for extending their support to this tournament.

Tournament standings: 1. Champions: EY Alkhobar, 2. Runners-up: EY Muscat, 3. First Runners-up: EY Bahrain, 4. Second Runners-up: EY Kuwait.

Individual prizes: Fair Play Award (EY Qatar), Best Dressed Team (EY Dubai), Best Bowler: Hassan Malhi (EY Alkhobar), Best Batsman: Uzair (EY Bahrain), Best Fielder: Omar Sarfraz (EY Muscat), Best Wicketkeeper: Alok Chugh (EY Kuwait), Best Catch: Arun (EY Kuwait), Best Veteran Player: Mohamed Nayaz (EY Muscat), Player of the Tournament: Abdul Wahab (EY Al Khobar).
