[India], Dec 12: After the party’s superb performance in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, Congress workers erupted with joy and danced to the tune of drum beats everywhere in the country.
In addition to the party workers, senior leaders like Anand Sharma could not conceal his joy. The celebrations took place at Delhi’s Lodhi Garden today. The veteran Congress leader also cut the cake brought by the party workers to mark the victory.
Sharma told ANI, “I congratulate everyone for the support. We accept this victory with humility. People were suffering under the BJP governance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been criticising his predecessors and the Congress party. Hence, I appeal the Prime Minister to change his mindset towards this”.
The results of assembly elections in five states are crucial for the BJP-led NDA government as it opens the gate for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Yesterday, a large number of party workers gathered in front of Congress headquarters at Akbar Road to celebrate the success. As the trends started pouring in, party workers immediately got into the exercise of putting up posters, banners, etc.
In Telangana, however, K Chandrashekar Rao’s Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has left behind the Congress-Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) alliance. In Mizoram, the regional dominant party Mizo National Front (MNF) has made the Congress lick the dust. In a House of 40 members, MNF won 26 seats, Congress five and BJP one. (ANI)
